桃園縣「觀音鄉」地名沿革及傳說研究
Study on the Evolution and Fable of the Geographic Name in "Guanyin Township" of Taoyuan County
摘要
台灣地名的形成，與政治變化、自然環境、種族語言甚至人文環境等因素息息相關，這其中，經由傳說所形成之地名亦不在少數，這些傳說有部分是穿鑿附會而得，也有不少經記錄成為歷史而記載於方志典籍當中，從而使原本僅具故事意義之「傳說」，逐漸加強了論證的意義。本文中，主要以桃園縣觀音鄉之「觀音」地名為研究對象，首先探討觀音鄉周邊地理環境及早期屯墾開發情形，對不同時期的名稱作一說明；並就台灣現有方志與民間口頭傳說之紀錄，首先歸納「觀音」地名自古至今之稱呼及沿革，分析造成名稱變化的種種因素，同時以「觀音」地名各類傳說形成之背景與故事主題為前提，分析傳說之基本結構與形成，討論「觀音」地名傳說於傳播及演變過程中所表現出之各類現象與特質。研究發現，「觀音」地名之演變及傳說本身的變化，雖與造成一般地名演變之政權交替及人文背景等因素相符，卻更複雜地融入了傳說本身的口傳特性與居民的宗教信仰及集體意識等因素於其中；民間信仰對地名命名的影響，不僅反映出基本的民間文學特性，同時亦結合社會文化思維與其他種種主、客觀因素而存在，而「觀音」之地名，適足以體現此類地名命名所反映之特殊現象與影響。

In this article, the object of study is the geographic name-”Guanyin” of Guanyin Township in Taoyuan County. First discusses the environment and development situation of Guanyin Township, gave a description about the name in different times, moreover, induces the past history of the geographic name-”Guanyin”, analyzed the various factors in the changes of the name, and according to the fable in the local chronicle and folklore of Taiwan, discusses each kind of phenomenon and characteristic in the disseminative process.The research discovered that the geographic name-”Guanyin” and the fable was changed by the politics and history, moreover, affected by the religious belief and collective consciousness, the geographic name of ”Guanyin Township” has reflected each kind of phenomenon and the influence.
