Adaptation of Acinetobacter baumannii to Carbapenem Pressure

並列摘要

Acinetobacter baumannii has become a leading pathogen of nosocomial infection worldwide. The natural habitat from where A. baumannii originates is still undetermined, but it is not a common commensal of human body. Despite the versatility, the main advantage for this bacterium to adapt to hospitalized environment and patients is its ability to rapid development of resistance to antibiotics, especially carbapenem. In the review paper, results with experimental evidences dealing with the strategies or genes conferring to carbapenem resistance, the genetic structures for the acquisition and spreading of the resistant determinants are summarized and discussed extensively.
