並列摘要

The issue of bullying represents a negative trend that has escalated over the years and impacts the wellbeing of youth. Not only are young people verbally, emotionally, and physically threatened and abused by bullies, especially in schools, such incidents of bullying are being associated with adverse effects such as suicide and antisocial behaviors. Additionally, this act of violence impedes on leisure participation among youth. As such, this article examines the impact of bullying on young people, with a specific focus on its impact on youth leisure participation, including its impact on their wellbeing. It aims to explore whether bullying serves as a constraint to leisure participation among youth. The threat of bullying poses a problem to youth wellbeing and limits their potential for participating in leisure and recreational activities on the playground or areas where bullies frequent; and youth often have limited adult supervision. This limitation in itself draws awareness to the need to explore bullying as a constraint to leisure participation largely because this act of abuse doesn’t only occur and impact youth within the school setting, but also, it permeates leisure and recreation programs as well as impacts youth within every circle of leisure.
