Proposed by the French President Macron, the Global Pact for the Environment was submitted to the UN General Assembly in September 2017. It aims to serve as a binding, universal ＂umbrella text＂ synthesizing the principles outlined in the Rio Declaration, the Earth Charter, the World Charter for Nature, and other legal instruments shaping global environmental governance. It links human rights and the environment. Hopefully it will be adopted by the end of 2020.
