Intra- and Inter-Rater Reliability of the Movement Assessment Battery for Children Test and Test of Gross Motor Development-Second Edition

摘要

Purpose: To examine the intra- and inter-rater reliabilities between a physical therapist (PT) and a physical educator (PE) scoring in the Movement Assessment Battery for Children test (Movement ABC test) and the Test of Gross Motor Development-Second Edition (TGMD-2). Methods: One hundred and twenty eight children aged 7-10 years were randomly divided into two groups. All children accepted the evaluation every seven days in three times totally, which the first two times was undertaken by the same administrator and the last time was done by the other one. Two evaluators, a PT and a PE, used the Movement ABC test and TGMD-2 individually to evaluate motor abilities of the children. The intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs) were used to determine the intra- and inter-rater reliability. Results: The higher inter-rater reliability of the Movement ABC test was found in the age band 9-10 (ICCs=0.70, p<.01) than in the age band 7-8 (ICCs=0.22, p<.05). The intra-rater reliability for PT was higher in the age band 9-10 (ICCs=0.84, p<.01), but it was higher in the age band 7-8 for PE (ICCs=0.79, p<.01). The inter-rater reliability between PT and PE (ICCs=0.71, p<.01) and the intra-rater reliability for PT and PE (ICCs=0.67-0.71) were moderate in TGMD-2. Conclusions: The inter- and intra-rater reliabilities were acceptable in the use of Movement ABC test and TGMD-2 for trained physical therapists and physical educators. Proper training for evaluators is crucial for the use of these two tests to accurately assess motor abilities of children.
