It takes effort to succeed, but effort does not necessarily lead to success. Researchers have expressed the view that injury or lack of talent underly student athletes' intention to quit sports. The social aspect has not been comprehensively discussed. Purpose: To explore the effects of physical, mental, and social factors on dropout intention among outstanding student athletes. Methods: Questionnaires were distributed to student athletes at high schools and universities, with 170 valid samples collected. Results: Physical, mental, and social factors were all found to be related to dropout intention. Conclusion: Low self-efficacy, poor performance, overload, and lack of financial capital influenced the sports dropout intention of outstanding student athletes. These students expressed no plans to work in sports in the future. The male athletes received less financial support and were more likely to quit sports than the female athletes.
