This article aimed at exploring the research and practical development in special education from sociological perspectives. First, the author analyzed Taiwan's special education development based on its historical context. Second, the author proposed four principles of McDonaldization (efficiency, calculability, predictability and control through nonhuman technologies) to explain the phenomenon of McDonaldizationin special education in Taiwan. Finally, the author concluded that the implementation and research paradigms in special education should be widely expanded in Taiwan.
