The purpose of this study is to explore the relationships among Internet use, loneliness and depression, and the different correlations among Internet use, loneliness and depression for different genders. The subjects were 403 college students in Taiwan. Structural equation modeling with latent growth curve models was used to analyze the three waves of data. The results are as follows: 1. There is no significant correlation between Internet use and loneliness. However, there are significant correlations between some Internet activities and loneliness. 2. There are significant positive correlations between the initial status of Internet use and depression. And there are also significant correlations between some Internet activities and depression. 3. There are significant gender differences for the correlation between the growth rate of Internet use and depression. The depression of males gets worse as Internet use increases, while that of females does not. Suggestions and implications for education, counseling, and future research are discussed.
