Visualization of Fashion Designers' Creativity from Silhouette to Details

Fashion designer research future fashion trends, sketch design, select colors, fabric, pattern, and give instructions on how to make products they designed. Sketching is an excellent way to quickly explore concepts. Drawing, as an essential support for many artistic practices, is the only solid foundation in which the creative work of the fashion designer can be developed. Silhouette is very important in fashion design creativity. It determines the style look and shaping the garment. The purpose of this study is to know how visualization of fashion designers' creativity from silhouette to details. The research methods use observation and focus interview. Participants are 3 young fashion designers from Surabaya Indonesia. Researchers asked to three young designers to sketch out a party dress as much as 20 sketches. Researchers gave the rules of the process of designing. The rules are sketches refer to inspiration pictures that have given by researchers, designers determine 3 to 5 silhouettes to be developed, and the time to designing is 1 hour. We obtained 60 sketches from three designers then we observe 60 designs based on silhouettes and details to design evening gowns. Researchers also interviewed three designers to obtain more deep information. The results of study are number of silhouette doesn't affect in designing a garment collection. This study evidence the difference of three designers in determining the amount of the silhouette. How to develop evening gowns from three designers are almost the same. A silhouette can be developed into several details. One or more details could be developed into several sketches. As shown in the visualization process design of three designers, the sketch is formed of one or more details. Likewise one or two details can be developed into several sketches.
