The purpose of this study was to compare the difference between miniature tennis and standard tennis teaching methods in terms of effectiveness of teaching motor skills to novice tennis players. The subjects included were 48 first-year, novice tennis players choosing tennis as an elective in first-semester courses. The subjects in the study were randomly assigned to either the miniature tennis group or the standard tennis group, and underwent motor skills testing before and after the six-week training. After the results were analyzed, the following conclusions were made: (1) after training, both the miniature tennis group and standard tennis group demonstrated positive improvement in forehand and backhand ground strokes, and forehand/backhand volleys. (2) After further study, it is found that the learning effect of teaching of tennis motor skills in the miniature tennis group was significantly higher. The study concludes that miniature tennis activities should be included in standard tennis educational curricula as auxiliary teaching methods.
