清法戰爭時期歐洲人眼中的北台灣－以《北台封鎖記》與《孤拔元帥的小水手》為例

摘要

本文以1884年到1885年清法戰爭為背景，主要以鄭順德先生譯自Jean L. ”Le Mousse de L'Amiral Courbet”的《孤拔元帥的小水手》與陳政三先生譯自約翰．陶德（John Dodd）”Journal of a blockaded resident in North Formosa, During the Franco-Chinese War, 1884～1885”的《北台封鎖記：茶商陶德筆下的清法戰爭》，此二份戰時來台及在台歐洲人所留下的北台灣的觀察紀錄史料為主要研究文本，鑑於已有不少關於此戰役本身的相關研究，因此除了戰時特殊現象探討之外，本文主要以觀察當時主戰場－北台灣之於歐洲人眼中的印象，試著從這些觀察記錄中再現當年的華人與北台社會，從洋人角度來瞭解當時北台灣社會現象，以及探討戰爭對於當時北台經濟社會的影響，本文試圖跳脫官方文獻框架，建立一份十九世紀末清法戰爭時期，歐洲人眼中的北台華人及其社會之文本。

The study tries to build a text of the European's viewpoints of North Taiwan during the Franco-Chinese War (1884~1885). The cases of the Chinese translations are appeared in Jean L.'s ”Le Mousse de L'Amiral Courbet” and John Dodd's ”Journal of a blockaded resident in North Formosa, During the Franco-Chinese War, 1884~1885”. It represents the people, the society and the economical affairs from the text, especially the unusual affairs during the war of North Taiwan in the end of 19th century .It explores that the European how to regard North Taiwan and its people with their fields of vision and how to describe it, and what the influences of the blockaded resident on social and economical aspects are.
