The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and The Expansion of Brazilian Civil Construction Companies to South America

摘要

This article presents the credit agreements granted by the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) between 2004 and 2015, aimed at supporting the export of engineering services to South American countries, broken down by company, country, work performed and value of the contract. The analysis of the data is accompanied by the historicization of the institutional changes that the Bank has undergone in recent decades. The conclusion is that the granting of credits to Brazilian civil construction companies for the construction of works abroad is the result of a broad movement that includes: tuning requirements between the processes of capital appreciation and regulation in view of the wide modifications that the Capitalism passed in the recent period; Government-oriented actions to intensify South-South relations, especially in relation to the countries of the southern portion of the American continent; and business strategies aimed at expanding their space of action
