Experimental Poster for Postmodern Poetry with Geometry Symbols

摘要

「幾何」原為一種數學丈量的理性符號。「詩」則是一種感性的敘事體。然而這兩種看似平行線的對立關係，於後現代主義「抽離再併置」的特色與後來的藝術畫派、文學流派中發現可以有共同的交集點。例如，塞尚之後的藝術開始察覺到自然中的幾何關係，這個發現對於爾後的畫派影響甚遠，許多畫家將物件抽離成單純的幾何在重新組合成表達強烈情緒的畫面；而文學上「詩」的演變也依循著文化流轉有不同的變遷，例如：90年代將文字以「單位」的方式解構、重組成足以述說情感力道的語句，使得後現代主義的文學注入了理性氛圍在其中。因此，本創作希望透過幾何符號對後現代詩進行實驗性的海報創作，企圖找出它們之間理性與感性的交集點。透過幾何圖形的象徵意涵進行後現代詩的情緒轉譯。企圖以理性的幾何表現出感性的詩意。在文獻資料分析中發現，幾何符號以文化或宗教的象徵意義為多數。因此，在符號意義選擇上會以符合詩中內文的為優先。後現代詩則以詩人夏宇傾向女性主義的詩篇作為本創作的題材。在創作過程中嘗試多種方式，企圖以單純的幾何符號達到使人理解詩意的境界，然而經多次實驗後發現，幾何符號所象徵的意義屬於共同累積經驗下的產物，如果觀者缺乏對該符號的經驗就無法解讀並產生共鳴。因此，在最後的創作中加入一些具象的圖像與符號才可以輔助觀者去理解內容。經由此次創作後，期望在未來可以將之延伸為立體或動態等不同的創作模式，或許透過超越平面的立體方式以及方向性等動態方式可以更增加觀者對於創作的理解。

Geometry, defined as a rational symbol on mathematic measurements; and poetry, a sensitive narrative. According to definitions above, these two factors seems to be laid on different parallel lines. However, if we decompose and reassemble them under Postmodernism, or even under arts, literature in coming years, we will surprisingly find a reasonable intersection in certain level. For instance, Paul Cézanne and other artists in the same ages had noticed the idea of geometry is contained in nature, of which had took important role in forming Cubism. On the other hand, literature, or poetry, had adapted itself to tide swift from time to time. For example, poets had injected some rational features in their poems by analyzing and relocating words in 90s.Hence my research is to do experimental poster creations about Postmodern poetry with geometry symbols, and dedicate to figure out intersections in-between. By interpreting emotions carried by poems with symbols, I intended to express sensibility with sense. During my reference analysis, I found out those meanings of symbols are mostly defined by cultures or religions. Due to this, the priority of symbol selection in my posters was decided by its suitability of meaning expression. As to the topic of this creation, I chose Hsia Yu's composition, of which are known for Feminism tendency. I tried several ways of creation and all of them were intending to convey meanings of poetry to visitors through simple geometry symbols. Nevertheless, after several experiments, the results indicate that due to symbol definitions come from common experiences; therefore, the audiences might suffer from understanding difficulties because of lacking these common experiences. According to this result, I had had to add some specific images or symbols in my final creation to help audiences to understand.Through practicing this creation, my future expectation is to extend this idea further down to solid or even motion creation. By the means of breaking limitation of graphic design, maybe we can reinforce audiences' understandings and experiences.
