We developed micro- and meso-scale models to investigate lubrication mechanism of human joints. In a micro scale, we focus on the role of polymer brush existing on articular cartilage surface. A coarse-grained model based on a simple bead-spring system was examined with Brownian dynamics simulations; it is suggested that flexible polymer brush on the cartilage surface can change the flow pattern of synovial fluid near the surface and reduce the kinetic friction. In a meso scale, gel on the cartilage surface is modelled as a network of harmonic springs. Through Brownian dynamics simulations, its elastic properties and sliding dynamics with ploughing friction were investigated.
