Changhua coast is an area where a large number of protected birds are distributed. However, we observed some intertidal flats without bird foraging in the Fangyuan wetland. In order to quantify the spatio-temporal dynamics of zoobenthos and benthic algal biomass in the wetland, sampling was conducted at two nearby sites for comparisons every three months from 2014 to 2015. Results showed that biomass and abundance of bivalves at the site with bird foraging was significant higher than the site without bird foraging, so was the biomass of benthic algae. There is a positive correlation between dissolved inorganic phosphate, ammonium, and benthic algal biomass. We suggest that the possible reason for bird foraging is nutrient enrichment increasing benthic algal biomass and providing food supply for bivalves, which in turn increasing the biomass and abundance of bivalves, and attracting more birds to feed.
