In order to meet the future needs for the electronics, information and communication industries as well as the environmental requirement, lithium secondary batteries have become the most popular products on market. For further improvement, the development of the solid type polymer lithium secondary batteries, which have the potential to be smaller, lighter, thinner, higher energy density, safer and environmental friendly energy storage cells, becomes an important research area. This paper introduces the development of polymer lithium secondary batteries and focuses on reviewing the progress of the application of polymer electrolytes, a key component of polymer lithium secondary battery, on the secondary polymer lithium batteries.
