The proportion of people who go to hospital to seek medical service became higher than before. To let people from different groups stay peacefully, the present situation needs to be improved. Previous literature reported that both males and females care about their privacy in emergency rooms. However, most private spaces are designed for females. In the era of gender equity, both genders should have the same right to have privacy. This study aims to spark ideas on designing hospital private space to be friendly to both genders, understand what problems users would encounter when in the waiting room in hospitals in the point of view from gender equity. Observation and recoding method are used to discuss whether the space design caters to the variety of users' psychology and behaviors. It is found that the utilization rate of water dispenser is higher in the waiting zones without sickbeds. Users tend to choose seats where they can watch TV and close to the gates. While in the waiting zones with beds, users stay around the beds, accompanying the patients. Companion space and personal privacy should be taken into consideration. The design for seats can be combined with sickbeds and thus create more flexibility on utilizing.
