The paper argues that Filipino philosophy has its place among other Asian philosophies particularly in consideration of its similarities with aspects of Chinese philosophy. Focusing on a cross-cultural philosophical analysis of resiliency, the first part of the paper outlines the Filipino experience of katatagang-loob (emotional strength/resiliency) within the context of the challenges apparent in contemporary times. In this connection, the paper also describes the dynamics that may have possibly shaped resiliency among Filipinos as a social-cultural, religious, and postcolonial phenomenon. The second part focuses on a comparison between aspects of Taoism and katatagang-loob. Similarities can be drawn from both providing an enriching cross-cultural standpoint with which to understand the necessitated wisdom and philosophy behind the experience of human resiliency.
