Lü Cheng was one of the most brilliant Chinese scholars in the field of Buddhist Study throughout 20^(th) century. The most important work in his Buddhist career was organizing the curriculum of the Chinese Metaphysical Institute, namely, Five Branches of Buddhist Studies. Ever since its foundation by Ouyang Jian, the Chinese Metaphysical Institute was in accordance of the aim of "preaching through printing sūtras," and successively founded the University of Dharmalaksana, compiled the Zangyao, published "Shijiao," organized Five Branches of Buddhist Studies in three periods, and established the educational system of the institute. The Buddhist educational system of this institute is discussed through a close examination of the development of the Five Branches of Buddhist Studies and their contents.
