This essay aims to study the religious practice and literature work of Master Hsing Yun in his early life and reaches the conclusion that Master Hsing Yun has promoted his religious activities under severe circumstances, leading to the formation of the theories of building human-oriented, simplified and modernized Buddhism. His literary works, which reflect those theories, have not only blueprinted his missionary work, but also laid the theoretical foundation for Fo Guang Shan's development and followers. Therefore, the early literary works of Master Hsing Yun is of great significance to our research on Fo Guang Shan's history.
