Sand bubbler crab, Scopimera bitympana (Decapoda: Crustacea: Dotillidae), is an important bioturbator and a common species on sandy shores in Taiwan. The experiment was carried out in Danshui River. Two sites were chosen for replicates. 20 months sampling from March 2006 to October 2007 took apart during low tides. Three 30m transects paralleled to shore were set at high, mid and low shore and 20 (25 × 25cm) quadrats were randomly chosen for each transect. 60 quadrats were sampled in a month at each site. Abundance of S. bitympana had seasonal variations which was higher in summer and decreased in winter. Reproductive period was from March to October and the percentage of ovigerous females had two pulses during one reproductive period. Recruitment of S. bitympana presented from April to October, then the females matured and joined reproduction in the first year. In present study, the effect of temperature on population dynamics of S. bitympana was probably larger than sand grain size or salinity.
