Based on the place theory, using the case of Taumi community, Nanto County in Taiwan, this study aims to explore its way to reshape sense of place and the dependence of the residents on place by analyzing reconstruction and place remodeling experiences after the 921 earth quake. It also likes to analyze how the relationship between people and land being influenced by place remodeling from the changing of land use. This study adopts literature review, interview and participant observation to collect information in the fields from July, 2009 to February, 2010. The results find that there are two key influential factors for the Taumi residents to remodel and their dependence on place. Firstly, the core value of place based on culture, texture of life and joint memory defines the place not only a space of living, but also of value and attribution. Secondly, adopting a cooperative model of resource sharing and profit feedback, the new industry integrating ecology, production and living together reconstructs the connecting of place and society, creates local economic opportunities by tourism, , strengthens place recognition and participation, and brings in a tight and diverse connection among residents. The study proves that the relationship between people and land changed during the reconstructing process of place. Residents’ faith of core value and emotion on place sustain the relationship between people which not only contribute to local economy, also bring the locals the sense of satisfaction on place.
