Rock & roll is not only a unique musical form, it’s also one of the means for an individual or a group of people to express their political ideas and an important medium for political communication and political mobilization in the arena of social movements. The form and content of musical creation are often deeply influenced by social contexts, but more importantly, music can also accelerate substantial change through collective action. Therefore, I intend to take the musical works of Da-You Luo and ChthoniC as the subjects of my case studies, look into the way they express their nationalist imaginaries through music and practical political participation, and find out what kind of relationship that their music and the external social contexts hold, then reflect on the current political and social development in Taiwan.
