This thesis discussed the failure of plates and beams,subjected to impact load. Firstly,the deformation and failure property of the beam structures is described by Plastic Hinge in this thesis. Using Nonlinear finite element program LS-DYNA simulate the plastic hinges to dynamic response of the beam under transverse load ,the simulating results were in good accordance with the approximate analytical method to evaluate beams,subjected to impact load. Secondly,Tearing failure ,Crushing,folding or denting failure and Penetration and Stretching failure modes of plates were discussed and simulated in this thesis. Finary the NSWC experimental ship collision simulation example was carried out and the simulation results fitted well with the results of experiments and the Minorsky’s experience formula.We also discussed three transverse ship collision simulation example extensively, and compared the simulation result with The Minorsky's experience formula. The simulation result is consistent with The Minorsky's experience formula very good. This thesis is helpful for structural collision analysis,also can help the design of ship protection.
