華語地區腐女的文本意義再生產——以隨緣居《星際迷航》迷群為例

The Re-creation of Original Texts by Chinese Speaking Yaoi Fangirl:A Case Study of Star Trek Fandom in Forum Suiyuanju

In recent years, Yaoi Culture has become an innegligible culture phenomenon as it deeply influencing the daily life of young women from places that speak Chinese language. Yaoi fangirls are active in all types of websites, writing tons of slash texts that focus on romantic relationship between male characters. They started as marginal culture and are becoming mainstream culture now. Therefore, this research considers the slash texts as a way of both feminine writing and female pornography, and then discusses the misappropriate using and reproduction of original fiction novels and fangirls’ personal life. The social cultural connotations behind this phenomenon is also be discussed in this research. The slash texts of Star Trek fandom from Chinese internet forum “Suiyuanju”will be used as study texts. Based on these texts, the research will use discourse analysis and focus on the process of reconstruction of original novels and the creation of the unique language used inside of this fandom. By analyzing some unique genre of slash texts in Yaoi fangirls, this research will also address to the different ways of building up of genders and the relation between different genders. Even though the slash texts are romantic stories between male characters writing by female, the study results show that the discourse system of patriarchy is used in slash texts due to its internalization in female writers. The binary opposition between masculine characters and feminine characters, featured by male thinking model, is commonly seen in slash texts. In this case, slash texts are a transformation of heterosexuality. However, slash texts open up a new area for feminine writing by breaking the patriarchal thinking pattern of no sexual desire in women. This research also shows that Yaoi fangirls reveal the truth of the human manipulated gender construction through creating male characters that have both masculine and feminine features. From this perspective, Yaoi fangirls bring the possibility of adding to new gender images. In conclusion, slash texts create a unique reading space with multiple gender images for women. A flexible model of gender identity is forming because of the diversified and changeful texts of sexual desire. The process of Yaoi fangirls writing and reading slash texts is considered as a private experiment of their own interpretation of genders. The attempts making by Yaoi fangirls will also be beneficial to eradicate gender essentialism.
