葉黃素及玉米黃素對於視力保健之功效探討

摘要


飲食中的葉黃素及玉米黃素在預防老年性黃斑部病變的視力退 化扮演者重要的角色。流行病學研究指出飲食中葉黃素和玉米黃素的 攝取不足或是血清中低濃度的葉黃素和玉米黃素會增加老年性黃斑 部退化的風險。氧化壓力與發炎和老年性黃斑部病變的病發有關。我 們先前的研究結果表示補充葉黃素複方飲品具有視力保健的功效。 本次實驗擬探討飲用含有葉黃素及玉米黃素之複方飲品對於保 護眼睛預防光氧化傷害發生之機制。本試驗為期五個月,以用眼過度 的健康人為納入條件,經問卷篩選後共 56 位參與者參與。受試者每 日飲用 60ml 的試樣品連續五個月,試驗期間進行體位測量,眼底黃 斑部色素密度檢測,採集血液樣本測定血清中的葉黃素及玉米黃素、 抗氧化酵素活性(超氧化歧化酶、過氧化氫酶、穀胱甘肽過氧化酶、 穀胱甘肽還原化酶)、抗氧化壓力指標(總抗氧化力、總酚類化合物、 脂質過氧化物、全血自由基)、發炎指數(hs-CRP、fibrinogen 及 IL-8)。 結果顯示補充葉黃複方飲品能有效增加血清中葉黃素和玉米黃 素含量及顯著提升眼底黃斑部色素密度、抗氧化酵素、總抗氧化力、 總酚類化合物,並顯著調降血中脂質過氧化、自由基及 hs-CRP。 本研究發現長期補充葉黃素及玉米黃素能有提升身體內抗氧化 力並降低氧化壓且增加眼底黃斑色素密度達到視力保健之功效。

Dietary lutein and zeaxanthin play a protective role against visual loss from age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The epidemiological studies suggest that insufficient dietary lutein and zeaxanthin intakes or low serum lutein or zeaxanthin levels will increase the risk for AMD. Oxidative damage and inflammation are relevant to the pathogenesis of AMD. Our previous work showed lutein complex supplementation improved the eyes function notably. The objective of this study wasto investigate the protective mechanism of the lutein complex supplementation (combination of lutein, zeaxanthin) against photooxidative damage to our eyes. The eyestrain participants (n=56) were identified after finishing the questionnaire. Lutein complex were taken 60 ml/d after meal for 5 months. Serum lutein and zeaxanthin, antioxidant enzymes activities (superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase), oxidative stress index (total antioxidative capacity, glutathione, total phenolics, total free radicals and TBARS) , inflammatory markers [high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), fibrinogen, and interleukin-8 (IL-8)] and macular pigment optical density were measured. The concentrations of serum lutein and zeaxanthin, levels of antioxidant enzymes activities (superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase) , total antioxidative capacity, glutathione, total phenolics, and macular pigment optical density were significantly increased after the supplementation. Oxidative stress indices (total free radicals and TBARS) in plasma have significantly reduced. Levels of inflammatory marker hs-CRP significantly decrease after supplementation. In conclusion, a long term supplementation with lutein complex can act be effective treatment on eyes by relieving the oxidative stress and significantly enhancing antioxidant enzymes activities.
