Construction job site can be seen as an independent team project , where the site's performance depends crucially on the job site director's ability to lead, to motivate, and to utilize the team's strengths to accomplish the tasks assigned by the organization. The purpose of this academic research is to determine whether the leadership styles and levels of professional competence of a job site director would have an influence on site performance, in order to provide useful information on the qualifications for job directors and the employment criterias for construction company managers. This study was assisted by the Association of the Construction Industry Job Site Directors and by the trainees, classmates, and friends of the School of Job Site Directors Course on sending out the surveys. The surveys were mainly targeted at job site directors of contractor or construction companies in the areas north of Hsinchu City. This study handed out 160 copies of surveys, with 108 valid surveys out of the 118 surveys collected back. Through SPSS statistical analysis, the results are as the followings: (1). The leadership style of a job director has positive correlation to the measures of site performance; (2). The professional competence of a job director has positive correlation to the measures of site performance. The verification result of the two assumptions were fully established. However, we also observed that: (1). Different personal characteristics of staff do not have uniform impact on site performance; (2) When taking consideration of all personal variables, leadership style and professional competence have the most impact on site performance; two hypotheses set up previously for the same results. In addition, this study observed four important facts: (1). If the leadership style of the job site is more legislative, the site performance greatly increases. (2). The higher level of professional competence in a job site director, the higher of site performance. (3). Industry experience and job title have positive correlation with each other, with have positive correlation with site performance. (4). There is no positive correlation between education background and site performance.
