For those who are handicapped in walking or those who are chronically lying on bed, they don’t have the ability to move independently. Therefore, it takes effort and time to move them from bed to wheelchair by nurse or helper. The current wheelchairs do not provide such function of transferring patient from/to bed to/from wheelchair. This thesis presents a novel mechanism design of sitting-lying wheelchair with the function of transferring user from/to bed to ease the burden of nurse or helper. It is able to reduce the required manpower for hospital and achieve time-saving and labor-saving via this device. This novel design mainly includes four parts: translating mechanism, leaning-lying mechanism, elevating mechanism and folding mechanism. The folding characteristics is the main feature of this design which makes easier for helper to carry outside the hospital or home to use it.
