產品創新與使用後評估:除濕機案例研究

Product Innovation and Post-occupancy Evaluation: A Case Study of Dehumidifier

摘要


一個成功上市的商品之所以受到消費者的青睞、可能是因為該產品具有某種創意設計,但購買之後其實際的使用情形卻未必如消費者和設計者原來的預期。本研究以P公司推出的家具型除濕機(F-Y184BW)為案例,探討市場成熟商品的設計企劃提案與消費者實際的使用之間的差距,以及如何從使用後評估尋求次代產品設計開發的創意來源。 本論文的研究步驟為: (1)分析工業設計發展過程中的圖文資料和訪談相關人員的原始想法。 (2)以家庭實地訪談與觀察進行使用後評估(post-occupancy evaluation;POE),分析售後服務的顧客資料,比對出次代產品的設計基準。 (3)訪談分析資深販賣經銷人員有關該產品的消費行為 本案例研究發現,雖然在設計企劃階段設定符合消費能力之目標族群,開擴一般市調皆認為無大量商機之中間價格市場,但經過POE的訪談調查結果,企劃與設計所規劃的功能與實際上使用者認知有許多差距;包括免蹲式省力水箱、單向移動輪、濾網清洗、提水箱手把方式、操作面板選擇功能顯示、滿水位標示不明、濾網清洗顯示燈等,這些都應列為次代改善設計時考慮的必要因素之一。經使用者評估及經銷商訪談後綜合各方意見後,建議次代延續的重點包括:外觀造型優、顏色搭配佳、除濕能力、多功能、氣氛燈桌面和斜式操作面板。 最後,本研究建立一套簡易的POE方法,並且擬出一套適合於中小型企業的標準作業流程以及注意事項,供家電業者與學術研究作為參考。

Why a consumer product is successful in market could be its creative design. However, the consumer might find that the use of this product in everyday living does not meet neither his expectation nor the designer’s original intention. The thesis chooses the F-Y184BW dehumidifier produced by Panasonic company, as an example to (1) determine the gap between the designers,design intention and the users’ use experience, and (2) to search the innovative of next generation products by means of post-occupancy evaluation (P.O.E.). The procedures of this study are: 1. Analysis of the documents of the design and development process of the dehumidifier and interviews with the related persons to specify the original design intention. 2. Home interviews and observation via post-occupancy evaluation, as well as analysis of after-sales service data to determine the design criteria for the next-generation dehumidifier. 3. Interviews with senior retail persons to examine the consumer behaviors of the dehumidifier. The major finding is that even though the original designing and planning strategies were successful in marketing the dehumidifier by positioning it at medium price; which is thought no huge total sales revenue, there are gaps between the designers’ intention and the consumers’ expectation, including convenient squat-free water storage bin, unidirectional wheels movement,the cleansing of filters, the handle design for the water storage bin, function choices shown on main control/operation panel, unclear markings for full water level and blinking indicator light for filter cleaning. All these gaps should be improved for the design and development of the next-generation dehumidifier.In addition, the features should contain superior looking exterior design, more coordinated color tones available, reinforce product’s dehumidifying function,create multi-functions for single product, tablet-top for placement of atmosphere lighting, and oblique main control/operation panel. Finally, the thesis proposes a simple but not simplified POE method in form of standard operation procedure for small and medium sized enterprises, to examine the gaps between the design intention and consumers’ use experience, to search the sources of product innovation, and to determine the design criteria of new product development as well.
