First-stage Deployment of IPTV service- A case study on MOD TV & its Application in Vietnam

摘要


These years IPTV has been predicted to be “the future of Television” by world-wide experts. In reality, what users can take advantage of it is further than TV- channel delivery, but IPTV can satisfy them with many other interactive and personalized services thank to the IP-based technology. IPTV is really changing the way people watching TV, enriching their personal TV experience. Reportedly, the number of global IPTV subscribers will grow from 26.7 million in 2008 to 81 million in 2013, a compound annual growth rate of 32%. However, the above achievements of IPTV are almost seen in developed countries with advanced technical infrastructure, while other religions, including Vietnam, are still dealing with challenging issues in its experimental stage. Taiwan is among those IPTV market taking off successful IPTV deployment, with the biggest player as Chunghwa Telecom’s MOD TV. Due to the reasons above, this Thesis adopts the Case-study analysis on Chunghwa Telecom’s MOD TV to discover the Business strength, weakness, opportunities and threats it has been facing. A SWOT analysis is included in this study. Based on findings about MOD TV, some significant suggestions for Vietnam IPTV market will be inferred, ensuring that they fit the actual conditions of Vietnam economy and technology.
