摘要
Technology is an important force which shapes the environmental conditions, industry structure, defines competition bases and decides companies rise and fall. Understanding how technology evolves can help companies to better evaluate and understand the industry dynamics, do better forecast for future innovations. In our study, we have analyzed technology evolution of mobile phone industry in Taiwan. There are mainly two streams of researches describing the technology evolution: dominant design and technological guideposts. The basic notion of both theories is design convergence; after the early stage of design competitions, product designs usually converge into one well-accepted design. We study design convergence phenomena in a non-origin for the innovation place like Taiwan, and as a result we came to conclusion that there is design convergence, but not into one design. It forces some questions unanswered.
