The rapid growth of information and electronic industry had influenced many related industries: including publishing industry, in which the traditional paper publication had extended into the era of digital publication. Compared to books and newspapers, magazines contain a huge amount of graphics and text, which has high potentials for multimedia display. The contents of magazines can be displayed using multimedia devices (audio and video, interactions, and hyperlinks), and thus the reading habits are also changed according to electronic devices used(computers, e-readers, and table PC). In addition to content display, the navigation structure in digital publication is also affected—from lineal, page-flipping style to jumping or non-lineal navigation designs. This study applies previous navigation designs and classify current digital magazines into three types: chain, hierarchy, and mixed. The study investigates the user’s responses to three types of navigation designs mentioned above, and compares the users’ satisfactory level. The results indicate that the users are more in favor of chain navigation than the other two types of navigation designs.
