藝文空間意象之研究:初探臺北市中山堂之場所性

摘要


近年來,臺灣古蹟保存趨勢從被動的原貌保存逐漸轉為主動的活化再利用,因應都市整體更新與發展的國家政策,為數不少的古蹟建築被轉化為藝文空間,具有悠久歷史的臺北市中山堂也在這波政策的推動下,轉變為提供民眾參與藝文活動的公共場所。鑑於不少歷史空間的再利用以機能為首要取向,反倒逐漸失去原有的場所特性,臺北市中山堂的活化再利用是否延續過往的歷史痕跡和民眾經驗所累積的場所特性為本研究欲探討的重點。 本研究以挪威學者諾伯舒茲的場所精神理論作為探討臺北市中山堂場所性的論述依據。依照諾伯舒茲的論點,場所是空間環境與人在空間中的活動交互影響所形成,且場所的結構並非固定的狀態,因此,欲掌握與理解臺北市中山堂的場所性,便需從它的歷史脈絡中去找尋。研究結果顯示,臺北市中山堂承載著臺灣各階段所發生的歷史事件,並隨著時代與社會的變遷一同成長,在空間環境中,同一地點擁有不同時代的痕跡,在空間氛圍裡可同時感受舊有的歷史記憶與現代活動的結合。這特殊的場所特性不僅使得臺北市中山堂成為臺北都會的文化地景,並具有活化再利用的重要價值與意義。

In recent years, Taiwan has refocused its efforts from passively preserving the original appearance of its historical sites to actively adapting and re-using these venues. In accordance with overall urban renewal and development of governmental policies, a number of historical sites have been converted into art spaces. Taipei Zhongshan Hall with a long history has been adapted into a public venue used for a wide range of activities and events under the new wave of policies. As many historical sites have been re-developed to improve their functionality only to gradually lose their original features, this study aims at whether the converted Taipei Zhongshan Hall has preserved the “genius loci” accumulated by historical traces and civil experiences. The study bases upon the theory of place spirits developed by Norwegian scholar Christian Norberg Schulz, positing the discourse that a place is formed from mutual interactions and influences with activities between the spatial environment and the people therein. The structure of a place is not fixed but fluid. Therefore, we must explore historical contexts of the Taipei Zhongshan Hall in order to identify and understand its “genius loci”. The study result shows that the Taipei Zhongshan Hall, carrying the spirit of historical events of Taiwan from various periods, has grown along with social and political changes. In its spatial environment, a single location bears vestiges of different eras. Its atmosphere allows one to simultaneously experience the combination of bygone historical memories and present activities. Due to this unique feature, Taipei Zhongshan Hall has become an integral part of urban cultural landscape in Taipei with the significance of adaptive and re-usable value.
