Aging is a natural process of life. Currently the world population of elderly people is increasing, reflecting changes in the structure of society. Aside from welfare and benefit programs for senior citizens, how can we provide the elderly more ways to benefit from the value of movement? Contrary to mainstream thinking and the vaunted myth of “forever young.”aging can be very beautiful process. It is extremely important to engender a sense of value and meaning in a person’s life during their later years and the researcher believes the movement can be used to enable this process. Creative dance has often been used for younger children and researchers have shown the positive benefits on the development of the minds and bodies of children and teenagers. This research explores the application of creative dance activities among senior citizens to see whether the use of specific integrated movements are able to stimulate the return of bodily perception in the elderly.Major questions of concern include: Is this type of activity able to improve interpersonal interactions between senior citizens? Can creative dance courses be used as a rehabilitative tool to help slow aging? The purpose of this research is to: (1) Implement a course of creative dance activities and tactics to observe the effects on the elderly subjects’ visual perception, aural perception and tactile perception; (2) Use the four categories of Mollie Davies’ integration of movement theory to analyze the subjects’ body, dynamics, space and relationships to assess the effects of a creative dance course on the re-emergence of bodily control, spatial perception and mobility; and (3) To utilize creative dance to the measure the degree of change in senior citizens’ interpersonal interactions. As such, the research findings could be used in future strategic planning for aging populations or as a useful reference material for other educators.
