摘要

日軍聯合艦隊於1895（明治28）年3月攻佔澎湖島群島後，於同年4月與大清帝國簽定日清媾和條約（即馬關條約），將割讓的遼東半島、臺灣及澎湖群島納入日本領土，日軍為了日後的作戰準備而不斷改變並增設澎湖島的軍事設備。
因此，本文自1895（明治28）年3月25日，日軍接收清末軍事基地始，至1945（昭和20、民國34）年日本第二次世界大戰無條件投降期間之澎湖島軍事防務演變為主要撰寫範圍，探討要塞防禦佈署的戰略規劃與防禦措施，分析當時世界戰爭形勢改變導致澎湖島要塞的變化，並說明築城工事的重要性與澎湖島要塞的歷史紋理。
另一方面，國民政府接收澎湖島軍事要塞後，砲臺的空間形式因近年來國防部用地的釋出等原因使得其得以公開並開放觀光與規劃再利用之用途；正因如此，要塞設施的保存亦是日後重要的文化資產課題之一。

After occupying the Penghu Islands in March 1895 （Meiji 28）, the Japanese Combined Fleet signed the Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty （i.e., Treaty of Shimonoseki） with the Qing Empire in April of the same year, incorporating the ceded Liaodong Peninsula, Taiwan and the Penghu Islands into Japanese territory. Afterward, the original defense facilities on the Penghu Islands had been greatly improved since the Japanese army had constantly changed and added the military equipment on the Penghu Islands due to the preparation for wars.
On this account, this study has set the time range between March 25, 1895 （Meiji 28）, when the Japanese army took over the military bases from the late Qing Dynasty, and 1945 （Showa 20）, when Japan agreed to the unconditional surrender in World War II, as the time period of the research to explore the changes in the military defense on the Penghu Islands by investigating the strategic planning and defensive measures of fortress defensive deployment, analyzing the changes of Penghu island fortress along with the changes in the world war situation, and ultimately elaborating on the importance of fortification and the historical texture of Penghu island fortress.
On the other hand, after the Nationalist government took over the Penghu island fortress, the forts on the islands have turned to be used for sightseeing and other reuse planning in recently years due to the release of land by the Ministry of National Defense. Therefore, the preservation of fortress facilities will be one of the important cultural asset issues in the future.
