Our main objective was to evaluate the health effect of two popular alcoholic drinks among construction workers in Taiwan. Male Wistar rats (8 weeks old) were randomized and divided into 4 groups. They were fed (5ml / once a day) via a nasogastric tube with: 1) water, 2) A brand of alcoholic liquors, 3) B brand of alcoholic liquors, 4) rice brewing alcoholic liquors. All the rats received water and food ad libitum. The body weight was monitored daily. After 3, 4, 5 - month period, rats in each group were tested for locomotion activity and balance analysis before sacrificed. Then the blood samples were drawn and several organs were removed for biochemical and pathological analysis, respectively. The preliminary data reveals that rats after long-term exposures to both alcoholic liquors will increase in locomotor activity, and have tendencies to retard grow and increase on their blood triglyceride.
