從術語學觀點看國際關係著作的翻譯

摘要

術語(terminology)為傳遞知識的載體，專業語言中重要的溝通工具。術語在專業語言翻譯中也扮演同樣重要的角色。術語在經過翻譯後除了本身意義不變，所扮演的角色也應該不變，並保有其特質。要達到意義不變只需要在翻譯的範圍內討論即可，但若要能再深入探討如何將術語的角色和特質延續，使其能在目標語中達到同樣的效果，就必需將術語的特性也納入翻譯過程加以考量。因此本文試圖將術語學的概念應用於翻譯上。由探討術語學理論開始，而後進入翻譯實務層面。以國際關係學術著作為研究文本，分析了解學術著作國際關係學術著作書中術語翻譯的情形。包括譯者在進行術語翻譯時所採用的策略，以及不同版本的學術著作中術語翻譯的差異。藉由文本分析，找出翻譯著作中術語翻譯的問題。並對這些問題分析有可能的成因。最終目標為針對問題提出解決方法，以術語學研究中所提及的概念為主軸，就本文中所討論到的術語翻譯情形提出對策。盼能透過本研究針對國際關係學術著作術語翻譯研究的發現，使術語翻譯的工作更具系統性和整體性。

Terminology is considered to be a carrier of Knowledge, a tool for special language communication. Terminology also plays an important role in special language translation. Terms should remain its meaning, role and feature when being translated into another language. A translation study may help us understand how the meaning can be retained during the process of translation. If a further understanding is required on how the role and the feature of a term can also be retained in the translation process, a terminological perspective should also be taken into account. This study is intending to adapt a terminological point of view on terminology translation study. It starts with a discussion of terminology theory and then, applies the theory in terminology to translation practice. Academic writings on International Relations are the target text of this study. A description on the terminology translations in these text is also given to understand the phenomenon of terminology translation in the field of international studies, including analysis on how the terms are translated in terms of translation strategy and the difference between each translated version. From the analysis mention above, the causation of inconsistency is sorted out. Strategies based on terminological perspective are proposed to address the issue of inconsistency in this study. This study hopes that through the findings of this study could bring insights to present terminology translations practices as well as terminological works.
