摘要

本論文主要在透過實際翻譯，研究由丹尼爾．凱茲(Daniel Keyes)所著，一本關於多重人格患者的小說－《二十四個比利》The Minds of Billy Milligan。這是一本紀實的小說，作者丹尼爾以記者的身分，實際採訪病患及其家人的一些真實案例。筆者針對裡面的第四章到第十一章進行翻譯，並與目前市面上唯一的中譯本進行比較評析，包括筆者在翻譯第四到十一章時所應用的翻譯理論以及技巧。
本論文共分五章。第一章為緒論，介紹筆者的研究動機與目的，第二章為關於作者與原著的介紹。第三章為筆者的翻譯過程，主要在描述翻譯時所遇到的困難，以及介紹筆者所依循的翻譯策略和功能翻譯理論。第四章為筆者譯本與現有中譯本之比較。第五章結論總結了筆者翻譯的心得與感想。本書最後附有筆者的譯文、中文人名索引暨參考書目。
在翻譯的過程中，筆者深刻體認到關於家庭暴力、性虐待等，對一個成長中的兒童來說，會有何等的殘酷與不幸，本論文的完成使筆者對這些議題更加重視，並希望能引起更多社會人士的注意。在翻譯《二十四個比利》時，筆者深深體認到翻譯是件不容易的事情；翻譯就如同一座橋，將兩邊語言不相通的人們，與對方的文學作品作了有效的溝通；尤其透過本書，吾人可以藉由文字體驗，了解書中主人翁全然不同的人生與感慨。

Abstract

This thesis is mainly to report Daniel Keyes’ novel, The Minds of Billy Milligan, which tells the story about people who suffered from a mental illness of multi-personality. The story is a real case in which the author uses the identification of a reporter to visit the patient and his family members. I translated from Chapter Four to Chapter Eleven of this book and compared my version with the existed Chinese version. I applyrelated translation theories and techniques to translate Chapter Four to Chapter Eleven of the book.My thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter One introduces my motives and purposes to translate the book of The Minds of Billy Milligan. Chapter Two is a brief introduction of Daniel Keyes and his book. Chapter Three is translation process, including the difficulties that I encountered while translating this book and the translated strategies and functional equivalence that I applied. Chapter Four compares my
translation version with the existed Chinese version. Chapter Five is a conclusion, giving my comments and afterthoughts. The last part is mytranslation version, glossary in both Chinese-English, English-Chinese and a bibliography.During translation process, I deeply realize how cruel the householdviolence and sexual abuse would influence a child during his or her growing process. The completion of this thesis arouses my attention to
these issues, and I hope more concerns will arise among the society. While translating The Minds of Billy Milligan, I deeply understand that translation is never an easy job. Translation is like a bridge, it enables the
people of the different sides to build effective communication with each other. To build such a bridge not only needs languages ability, professional knowledge but efficient skill and wisdom of translation.
