Textiles and clothing industry plays a very important role in the global industry all the time and it is significant that the increasing human demand for textile products is accompanied with population growth. Taiwan's textile industry has been booming in the 1980s because of the government’s early support and export expansion, which made industrial technology developed rapidly and laid the foundation for the future of the industry. But Taiwan’s textile industry has accumulated much technical and marketing experience; it is believed the industry can be developed into a complete vertical production system to maintain competitiveness. However, whether labor cost could take full advantage and keep the textile export value to another is worth study. Therefore, this research mainly examines the economic aspects of the garment industry in Taiwan over the past decade. We use both multiple regression and Cobb-Douglas production function to analyze data and elasticity, and we also use the variables such as manufacturing employees average salary, the NT dollar exchange rate, the average monthly working hours of textile workers and the numbers of employment to explain their relationships and the effects on production and export value of Taiwan's textile related industries. This study finds employee salary could increase production value. Consequently, employer should not consider salary simply as cost. In order to improve the trend of shirking export, the industry should get rid of labor-intensive concept and transforms to technology-intensive perspective.
