The goal of the research is to investigate the building and design of home run walls, and we hope it can initiate the studies concerning the design of baseball fields. The method of the research is literature surveying and field studies about the development of building and design of home run walls in baseball fields. This research also analyzes and states the development of home run walls in American ballparks and in their historical chronicles, and we hope it can provide some reference for the design of Taiwanese ballparks. The findings of this research are as following: 1. There were not over-the-fence home runs in the early years of baseball sports. The naming and appearance of home run walls are formed with the erection of ballpark fence and the changes of baseball rules. 2. The first home run walls are one of the functions subordinated to the fence. There are no building and design of home run walls until the audience seats were placed in the outfield. The height and the shape of home run walls and the distance between the home run wall and the home plate can be adjusted according to the terrain and design of the baseball park. 3. There is no prescriptive request concerning the materials to erect the home run wall. However, there must be a consideration about safety. 4. There is a stabile building model in the home run walls of Taiwanese ballparks and a lack of managerial characteristics belonging to different ballparks. Therefore, our research finds that there is ductility in the building of home run walls and it is possible to promote managerial goals of ballparks through multiple designs and to change and express a whole new look in Taiwanese ballparks. Key words:home run, home run walls
