The purpose of this study is to investigate how computer curriculum is implemented in junior high schools in Taiwan. It aims to understand the curriculum implementation from the perspectives of teaching content, teacher qualification, computer equipment, textbooks, teaching practices, and integration with other subjects. A questionnaire survey was conducted to 719 computer teachers in all junior high schools to collect both quantitative and qualitative data, with a result of 74% response rate. Four computer teachers were then interviewed and their class teaching were observed to obtain further information for data analysis. The study reveals that 74% of the computer teachers surveyed did not teach the topic Programming outlined in the Curriculum Guidelines, and 35% did not teach Information Management. Forty-four percent of the teachers have been in teaching for more than 10 years, and only half of the teachers were certified in computer subject. In most computer labs, the ratio of students to instructional computers had reached 1:1; however, 70% of the teachers demanded more scanners and digital cameras. Ninety-five percent of the teachers used the textbooks endorsed by the Ministry of Education, and most teachers considered the quality of the textbooks moderately well. With respect to the teaching practices, 87% of the teachers taught the subject one hour per week, and more than 80% of the teachers evaluated students with homework and on-line quiz. Finally, only 13% of the teachers understood the roles of computers in the new technology integration curriculum well.
