摘要

本研究論文旨在瞭解男性社會工作者生涯抉擇與專業實踐歷程，以男性研究的觀點探討男性社會工作者在其中的經驗與意義，並從中試圖建構男性社會工作者在職場中不同的經驗圖像，經由抉擇和行動而形塑自身的生涯歷程。本研究論文以研究者個人自我敘事出發為研究源起與動機，並以此開展本研究的問題意識與重要性，文獻探討則針對男性研究、生涯發展與生涯抉擇、性別意識與職業工作，以及社會工作中的性別處境等分別進行現況說明。

本研究採取敘事研究方法，以三位不同領域、不同背景脈絡、處身以女性為主的職場，並且從事社會工作直接服務長達十年以上之男性社會工作者為訪談對象。藉由敘述訪談為資料蒐集方式，並採取敘事分析之「整體—內容」進行故事文本建構與詮釋、以「類別—內容」為輔進行故事的分析，分析方式則是參考並調整Chusmir（1990）所提出「促成男性選擇非傳統生涯因素」以符合敘說者的故事內容，抉擇因素包含：
1.「個人影響」：背景（原生家庭經驗、父母態度與教育程度）、態度與價值觀和內在需求；
2.「外在影響」：家庭影響（婚姻狀態）和社會影響（宗教信仰與重要他人）；
3.「結果」：性別意識、勞動條件、個人價值實踐與回顧反思等類別因素進行分析與討論。

根據三位男性社會工作者的故事文本與分析內容，本研究所獲致的研究結果包含：（1）原生家庭開放與彈性的經驗；（2）宗教價值的影響；（3）重要他人為實踐典範；（4）社會工作主體性價值的堅持與認同；（5）男性社會工作者的生涯抉擇仍在男性文化洪流之中。依據研究結果，研究者針對社會工作教育、社會工作實務場域、高中職學生生涯發展，以及社會性別教育等環節提供具體建議。本研究最後則以研究者個人的故事書寫與行動成為參照架構，針對社會工作體制、社會工作與性別、以及自身的性別特質與生涯抉擇方向等提出反思與學習。

This study aims to understand male social workers’ career choice and professional experience, in the perspective of male study. These social workers have unique experiences, because social work profession is conventionally dominated by women. This research analyses how these men make decisions and work to achieve their professional identity.

The author begins this study with a narration of his own story, and then moves on to review existing literatures on men studies of career choice and development, gender awareness, and gender difference to social workers.

This study has adopted a narrative research model. Three men who have practiced social work for more than a decade were interviewed. They, with different backgrounds, worked in different services. The transcripts of interviews are constructed and interpreted in narrative analysis, using holistic-content, as well as categorical-content perspective. The analysis is based on Chusmir’s theory on factors contributing to atypical career choices by Men. The framework is slightly modified to accommodate the narrations of interviewees. These factors include:

1.Personal influences: Background (primary family; education level and attitude of parents), attitudes and values, and intrinsic needs.
2.External influences: Family influence (Marital status) and societal influences (religious belief and significant others).
3.Outcomes: Gender awareness, work condition, realization of personal values and reflection

The analysis of narrations show that male social workers’ career choice and professional experience is highly related to: 1. Primary family’s openness and flexibility; 2. Religious influence; 3. Significant others’ role modeling; 4. Strong identification with the major values in social work profession; 5. Male culture in the context of society. Based on these findings, the author made recommendations regarding education and practice of social work, gender education and professional development of high school students. In the concluding part of this study, the author reflected upon his own life story and related it to the social work system, gender values, and his gender characteristics and career choice.
