Although more and more people use web questionnaires instead of paper ones, there are still drawbacks of web questionnaires, such as high drop-out rate, high response burden, low involvement. In this research, we improve users’ psychology conditions during questionnaire filling process. We design a scenario-based questionnaire by applying new elements, multimedia and virtual characters, to improve its high drop-out rate, high response burden and low involvement. Measured by questionnaire quality and quantity, we found that respondents’ content perception, involvement and response burden are the key factors to influence data quality. We use video, audio and pictures instead of text-only formats to increase respondents’ intentions and reduce psychology burdens. Using virtual characters and vivid dialogue to achieve storytelling is effective in presenting what messages designers intend to deliver to respondents. In brief, this paper focuses on how to improve questionnaire sample quality from the perspective of respondents’ psychology conditions of questionnaire fillings, and respondents are always the first priority in our research design.
