ABSTRACT The novel method of using continuous tribo-electrification variations to monitor the dynamic tribological properties between metal films has been applied successfully by the authors. The method was shown to produce clear and strong signals, superior to monitoring continuous friction coefficient variations. However, the above method was only shown to be suitable for the tested metal pairs that were studied. Therefore, the authors further investigated the method of using electrical contact resistance variations for monitoring the tribological properties, the wear mechanisms and the chemical reactions between the interfaces of metal pairs. The study was based on the above experimental equipments and measure technology to investigate the effect of normal stiffness on the tribological properties between the interfaces. The values of k and bases oil were selected as the main parameter. According to the continuous variations of electrical contact resistance and friction coefficient, with Wear loss and SEM of observations on the micro wear structures and of material transfer, study in series of normal stiffness on the tribological properties can be conducted. Furthermore, the experimental results can also be used to clarify the study of machine vibration in the future.
