Comparison of the Effect of Crossover Frequency Setting with Noise Energy Distribution for Hearing Aids

For hearing-loss group, wearing hearing aids is expected to increase the convenience to communicate with others. Appropriate hearing aids with favorable hearing aid parameters are the key point, as hearing aids are not simply a sound amplifier, but have to be suitable for the users and provide good sound quality and correct information in both quiet conversation and noisy environments. A lot of research on hearing aids confirmed the effects of parameter settings on the users. Most of such research on parameters focused on compressed parameters, which controlled the performance of output sound. In this case, the control of compressed parameters should be adjustable according to the users, in which distinct opinions appeared on the control of channel cutting. Crossover Frequency is a primary parameter for channel cutting. Aiming at the distribution of noise energy, this study adjusts the location of compression channel for effective noise suppression. In the research, subjective and objective voice evaluations are evaluated the feasibility. Such a control of compression channel based on the distribution of noise energy reveals certain suppression in objective voice evaluation, and is also confirmed by the participants in subjective voice evaluation. It ensures the effects of remaining voice message in noisy environments.
