Abstract Laminating machine is an important key process equipment for the manufacture of paper and PE composite which has the advantages of fast production, large production volume, and low cost. It also has very wide range of applications, such as viscose labels, paper cups, paper boxes, and paper plates, etc. In order to obtain the best PE lamination quality during the PE lamination process, it is not only necessary to have good laminating equipment and coating head agencies, but also necessary to consider the appropriate setting of process parameters. Traditionally, the setting of process parameters is relied mostly on experienced technicians who use trial and error method to perform this task. However, this method usually consumes more time and money, especially when it comes to full-factor and full-level experiment. In this study, the Taguchi method is applied to find the optimal parameters for PE laminating process. Four experimental controllable factors are selected, namely heating temperature, corona time, cooling time, and speed. The results of this study show that the overall process capability index (Cpk) has been improved from 0.34 to 1.45, and the entire material camber condition is convergent and stable.
