Established in autumn of 1999, Miaoli County Community College (MCCC) is the first community college in Miaoli County, and the third in Taiwan. It adopts “Lifelong sustained learning, deep rooted civil society, strengthened local attentiveness” as its mission of development. Due to the gradual attenuate of literacy in the Hakka language among the new generation, Hakka language is becoming a lost art among the youth. This development has in turn caused the detachment of Hakka artistic culture from daily living, and the diminishing of the Hakka Culture. In light of the abovementioned trend, the MCCC has ceaselessly developed courses on Hakka Culture since its establishment, and has reserved no effort in managing the elevation of the local Hakka culture. This research adopts methods of literature analysis and in depth interview. Its subjects are planners and promoters of MCCC Hakka Culture courses, including the Principal, execution officer, chief secretary, and lecturers of Hakka Culture courses from the executive units, as well as students participating in the Hakka Culture courses. In depth interviews are conducted with subjects in order to discover MCCC’s planning ideal, current course status, course contents, as well as the role Hakka Culture courses play in the Hakka community, and thus understand the effectiveness and influence of the Hakka Culture courses. Research findings are as follows: 1. On the formulation and implementation of Hakka Culture courses: MCCC has made the preservation and the passing down of the Hakka culture as its mission. Course planning procedure is circumspect and meticulously detailed, while course contents are diverse with concepts of civil society merged within. 2. On the implementation of Hakka Culture courses: Its course contents balance between theory and practice, which are practical and conform to the needs of the society. The interaction between teachers and students are harmonious, and lecture time, location and service quality are commended by students and community residents alike. 3. On the effectiveness and influence of promoting Hakka Culture Course: Students actively engage in course lessons, which enhance their working quality and fulfills their daily livings; students have heightened sense of accomplishment and duty due to the awakening to the possibility of the disappearance of the Hakka culture. Hakka Culture courses are the backbone of MCCC, and also function as indicators for the school. Under the deliberate and purposeful cultivation, talents with a perceived notion of civic responsibility are nurtured to pass down Hakka culture. The school also enthusiastically seeks for sponsors, and encourages more students to learn with passion, which in turn creates a gleam of hope for the revival of Hakka culture. This research aims to provide an introspective reference to the government, MCCC and its students, and future researchers. In addition, this research also expects to bestead the improvement of working efficiency for the MCCC, other community colleges, Hakka Culture promotion activities, and related execution agencies, so that they would in turn become significant factors in introducing the general public to have deepened understandings of the Hakka Culture courses.
