In order to explore how CEO compensation affects the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate performance, this study focuses on enterprises registered in the public stocking market between 2006 and 2012 and collects a sample of 5,924 observations. This study defines firms conducting CSR as they are the list of award-winning enterprises of Corporate Citizenship Award presented by Common Wealth Magazine. The empirical results indicate that cash compensation strengthens the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate performance, suggesting that the more the past performance is rewarded, the more the CEO participates in CSR activities. Accordingly, a close connection is found between CSR and corporate performance. However, stock compensation has no effect on the relationship between CSR and corporate performance.
