This design study’s objective is to discuss how narrative design theory helps in the application of spatial design with picture books as the basis of the discussion. It will analyze the code of the structure of picture books through the narrative design theory and use the analysis to develop a design a space. The aim of the study is: 1.Discuss the connection between methods of narrative designs and the structure of picture books. 2.Confirm the suitability of narrative design theory for the strategy and purpose of spatial design. 3.Discover the benefits of designing the space of a picture book exhibition based on narrative design theory. This study aims to discuss the meaning of narrative design thinking in literature, analyze it layer by layer, and then building a narrative design method that can be used in the space transformation model. After which, the researcher will conduct tests on it functionality, of which the results will be a testimony of the structure of narrative design theory. From the results of the functionality test, it is discovered that the creative thought process of using narrative design theory to analyze picture books and adapting it into design concepts helps designers to improve the effectiveness of their designs. Designs that are produced through the aid of narrative design theory turn out to be more convincing in their interpretations. This technique is a valuable reference that provides designers with another way of designing spaces.
