Education plays a very significant role in the development of any country because it is where the high quality human resource comes from. This study aimed to provide an overview about Vietnamese education system and how it affect the students in their study life. This research also explored the factors affecting Vietnamese students to go study overseas and factors influence them in choosing the destination country using Taiwan as a case study. The method of this research is qualitative which aim to provide in-depth knowledge about the variables. Focus group interview and in-depth individual interview was used in order to get as deep information as possible. The results of this study showed that there are clearly push and pull factors influence Vietnamese go abroad to study such as education system in Vietnam, the attraction of foreign education system, job opportunities after graduate, language proficiency improvement, the reputation of foreign university as well as course availability in that university, and finally is the small distance from Vietnam. Factors influencing students’ choice were found to be motivation, their personalities and past experiences, suggestion of their family, the culture attraction and destination features, most importantly among them is the cost. Based on the issues found, the study also had suggestions to Vietnamese authorities to improve the education system, start using English as a second language. From this study, Taiwanese government and universities can achieve some insights about how Vietnamese students made here their study destination, from that they can develop policies and solutions to help not only Vietnamese student but international students precisely.
